What is a tex-mex pickup?

i dont know about the tex mex, but my Tele with texas specials blows any standard strat out of the water. much hotter pickups and that thing screams. i did play a tex-mex equipped strat once, and i actually preferred the american standard that i got instead. the pickups didn't have that clic fender strat tone that i had wanted, but they had a bit more "bite" to them, and they picked up harmonics a little better. plus i don't really see the point in a tele with 3 pickups when you can do so much with 2 :)
